Car experts please help - car won't start but batter is not dead.

Anonymous
Got in my car this morning, turned the key and the car would not start. The radio, AC, Navigation is coming on just fine so it's not the battery. It also started performing some updates on my electric panel. Yesterday, I was shopping and had 120 miles to empty. I stopped at CVS and when I started the car again it went to 350 miles to empty. I'm thinking the "computer" is messed up. Is there anything I can do to avoid having to tow it to the dealership? The car is a 2013 Ford Escape. TIA

Can you disconnect the battery and reconnect after few min? Like powering down your phone? Don't buy another Ford.

That's what I plan to do as soon as I get home tonight. And I totally will not get another Ford (many reasons).

I didn't think of that, but when I had an alternator go on another car this is exactly what happened. Thanks.

I would not rule out battery yet. does it make any sound when you turn the key?

No sound at all.

I had to rush to work but I plan on doing that as soon as I get home tonight. I hope it's just a battery.

Was able to jump the car last night so I'm hoping it's just a bad battery. I took it to the shop down the street so now it's a waiting game.

Isn’t your battery original? Very common for batteries to die on the first cold night.

Yes, it's original. The car is 2013 and has 50,000 miles on it so maybe?

Rather than taking it to the shop, you should've just changed the battery. Walmart, surprisingly, sell good batteries. Hope they don't charge you too much. Good luck

$200 for the new battery and labor. Considering I have no tools, knowledge or space to do it (a woman living in a condo) I'd say it's fair.

But even the mechanic said companies are making it harder to replace these parts yourself because they want to make money on maintenance and repairs.
