Abbreviated Schedules and College Classes

Anonymous
Give me the lowdown.
My junior’s school is starting to talk about options for senior year including doing an internship or taking a class at MC. Both would mean only taking 5 classes. I have often heard that abbreviated schedules aren’t look upon well by colleges but the programs are presented in a “prestigious” light and a lot of the students involved seem to have high ambition.
I know you can’t generalize but please explain to me what the actual, overall take is on executive internships and MC classes vs taking a full schedule senior year

One of my kids did an abbreviated schedule for an internship. Not sure how it influenced colleges but she got into all her schools (they were all big state schools oos) so it couldn’t have hurt too much. I have heard that not taking a full course load does bring up questions to top schools but not sure.

Dual enrollment/college class = student pushing themself
Abbreviated schedule = senioritis

Why MC over AP?

This! What’s the value of taking one MC class vs two potentially AP classes at your school?

Because you're more likely to get college credit for a MC class?

Honestly, from what I've seen, most of these internships with the abbreviated schedule are a joke. Either stay in school for the full day and keep a generally rigorous course load (APs) or take a college level class at MC.
