Cap One is having a ton of turnover. Lots of reorgs and honestly all over the place .

Also, upon hiring benefits were not what inhouse recruiter said. That is a huge issue.Please make sure to get all benefits in writing from Cap ONe Benefits not the recruiters emails.

I don’t know where you heard that.

I worked there a decade, from analyst level to Sr Director. Every team I knew in card, business, IT, ops, legal, all got unlimited vacation. Official policy might be 3 weeks or something but it’s not tracked. I found that to be true in Richmond, Nova and other satellite offices.

what is unlimited vacation? Is it real? Can you take 6 months of vacation a year? i.e., unlimited...

Unlimited vacation, is the issue.

A few IT teams are extremely mad , because they thought that vacation was unlimited. When they were being hired they asked recruiter vacation policy she clearly wrote unlimited.

A few people left immediately upon discovering this issue after Cap One sent an email to the IT teams to say, no manager level only gets two weeks when first hired. It's in the benefits package clearly written. Again it's clearly in the benefits package. Not hard to find. Handled poorly by Cap One.

When hired I questioned this because the benefits package is not in line with what recruiter said and wrote. Went in knowing the reality.

Director level gets more vacation.

Place like Target Corp give unlimited vacations to Senior Store Managers.

Basically it means don't take vacation and we will not pay you out for vacation because we do not have to. Washington Post did an article about companies moving to this format.

This is not the same format Cap One had or has for director level and above.

You are correct this was the policy. Now it is being tracked. Prob. not every group yet. Ours got an email.

Freddie Mac is a dinosaur. Need to improve technology in order to reduce long working hours. Hired too many consultants because some managers & directors are not as competent. Really bad experience. Almost all the other analysts are looking or leaving. Management was controlled by outside contracting firms. Really really weird culture. I could go for weeks with little to do and then get slammed with a last minute fire drill to do powerpoints for some LOE that was needed last week. Lots of mind numbing tasks and the assignments made no sense. Feast or famine, seemed like no one was managing the department.

My experience at Freddie was hilarious.

I joined an office that was intended as a “redundant fail safe” post 9/11 - meaning if HQ blew up, they’d be able to keep the lights on because of their redundant teams. Surprise surprise, there was no work to do.

I regularly worked from home M and F. Then I started team golf day on W. Then I started working from home 4 days a week. Eventually I just stopped going in altogether. I had one daily “standup” call at 8am which I dialed into, never got asked a question, and then spent the day doing whatever I wanted.

I tried to volunteer for work - recruiting, diversity hiring, etc - every time I did I got my hand slapped for “stepping into so and sos responsibilities”. Eventually I just stopped trying to find ways to add value, made peace with the idea that if they wanted to pay me to do nothing I’d be fine with it.

I spent about a year at home, cooking, working out and such before I got so bored I went in and quit. By then, the only emails I got were those sent to distribution lists, my manager hasn’t spoken to me 1:1 in 6 months, and I’d stopped even trying to call into the daily meetings because I hadn’t been asked a question for at least 9 months.

When I went in to quit, they offered me a retention package to stay. I stuck around for another 6 months “transitioning” my work to no one.

It’s worth noting I flat out told HR the reason I was quitting was because “I’ve done less than hour of work in the last three months and I’m tired of volunteering and being told to stop”. They STILL have me a retention package.

To say the place was dysfunctional is to put it mildly. I had a fun two years working on my own interests, but for those that stuck around longer, it was a fantastic place to find your skills and employability completely atrophying.
