DC did not give residents/business owners their properties true worth before building Nationals Park

In some cases the city's appraisals were off by several hundred thousand dollars.
So that is why I will never support the Nationals baseball team.
DC is a huge eminent domain bully.

The Nationals are doing just fine without your support it would seem.

They did not do so well this past Friday, Saturday and Sunday night.

If you screw people over it will eventually come back to haunt you.

Random.

Everyone always thinks their property is far more valuable than it actually is. I'd need some actual proof.

Sounds like they ended up getting a pretty good deal.

DP. I agree. The owner who paid $5000 for an appraisal that was $2.2M, when the city offered 1.2 million for a property assessed at $241,000 the year before? He got $1.5M. The thing is, the $2.2M wouldn't have materialized without the redevelopment, and his property stood in the way of that. I don't feel as badly for these owners as I do for the low income people displaced in the area, or really across all of DC.

The nightclub owner got screwed the most out of all of them. That's why he declined to comment. His lawsuit is still in the courts. He is still upset.

There weren't many, if any, low income people who lived in the area. There were literally a handful of houses and a bunch of light industrial, some of which was converted to nightclubs. Yes it sucks to be eminentdomained, but the value to the city and region have been tremendous. And like a PP said, it was a windfall for the most part, regardless of how OP wants to cast it.

But if I am owed $100,000, I am still owed $100,000 regardless if I have only $1 dollar in the bank or if I have over $1 million dollars in the bank.

That money is still owed to me.

You paid someone to appraise your property at a higher value, and surprise surprise, they turned in a higher valuation.

But if you negotiated and agreed on a certain amount, then you are only owed that amount agreed on. You are not owed the higher amount that you went in asking for. If an offer is made and accepted, then thatbis the full amount owed.
