Is it safe to wear tap shoes almost all the time?

My toddler loves to tap dance. She refuses to take off her tap shoes. She knows she is only allowed to wear them inside on wooden floors and not on linoleum or on the street. We live in an old farmhouse so I don't mind any marks on the floors but will it cause her foot to develop improperly?

Toddlers should be wearing very flexible soled shoes.

They will cause her to slip - think straddle slip. Ligaments can tear. She should only wear them for class on a dance floor.

But isn't she allowed to practice tap facing outside of the studio? Her teacher encouraged or not maybe not to this extent. Like for hours

Let her have some fun! She’ll outgrow it soon enough. My toddler wore this pair of bright pink cowboy boots. She sometimes wore them to bed. She is normal ten years later.

Omg no. Let her bang away to her hearts content and then put her in more typical footwear. Be sure to get her lessons so she can learn safe skills.

Only to practice. Dancers don’t walk around in tap shoes.

NP here and it’s not good for your child’s balance not to mention the slipping risks.

Do you know what tap shoes are? They have two slick metal plates on each shoe. Your DD wore boots made to walk around in.

I wouldn’t let my kid walk around in tap shoes anymore than I would toe shoes or cleats.

Slipping is a real health and safety issue. Sure, it’s “super cute” but teaching toddlers appropriate boundaries is also helpful to both you, your child, and the world.

Yep. I used to dance. They aren’t that slippery. I fail to see this huge safety issue.

I mean gosh yes! You constantly hear of tap dance injuries. Practically lethal those tap shoes are with their slick metal plates.

You are truly tiresome, PP. OP asked a question and got responses from two different dance teachers. But you know better and have to try to mock them.

Get a little life for yourself, PP, and you won’t be so bitter.

So let your kid walk around in tap shoes 24/7. Let us know how that worked out for her.

Good gosh people are so uptight. She will outgrow this little stage soon enough. She isn’t going to damage her balance or her feet or anything horrible. She will have fun, which is apparently too much here.
