How are honors classes in 9th grade weighted?

Hi. How are 9th grade Honors classes weighted in the calculation of the GPA? Honors US History, Honors Biology, Honor English.....

For example - A = 5, B=4, C=3 and so on?

Yrs honors, ap, ib, and magnet are all wrighted.

But isn’t IB >AP > honors in terms of rigidity, how is this fair?

It's not fair, but it does "close" the achievement gap.

And remember at some schools they only offer honors level classes in some subjects. Best just to think of it as a 5 point scale for most college bound kids. They will have a few unweighted classes like PE and an elective but almost all will be out of 5. A 4.0 weighted grade is not very impressive.

But my point is why would you take Magnet/IB/AP instead of honors, if you aim to get high GPA

Honors is a .5 boost. APs are a full point boost.

No. Honors, AP, AL and IB are all weighted 1 point extra by MCPS.

It does not really matter. Colleges do not take the GPA of MCPS into account. They check to see what are the highest levels of courses offered at the school and what courses the student took. They are using the GPA and transcripts to rank the students in the school and district. That is the reason that AP courses, SAT etc become a great equalizer.

so confused, kids usually take biology in 9th grade right? so do they take AP biology again in later years??

When I was in high school (way back in the 80s and in NJ, not Maryland), I took regular biology in 9th, chemistry in 10th, physics in 11th, and AP biology as a senior.
