After donating car - refunds

Marked the car as donated and wrote to DMV as well. Haven't heard back. How do I get my registration $ back?

Also car property taxes? I just paid and within days donated. So should be getting the whole year's fee back. What is the process to get this refund?

Not in MD. You must be in VA.

If you're in Virginia, did you fill out the correct form and return the plates? If so and it's been longer than 14 business days, call DMV.

You'll have to ask your county/city about personal property tax refunds. They may just apply it to your next bill vs. sending you a refund.

I sold a car and was due a certain amount of property taxes back. It eventually came, but I don't think it was fast -- like it took several months -- maybe 6 mos. I sold the car at the end of Sept and I think I got it back around Feb.

There's a DMV form you fill out that you mail in with your license plates. They'll send you a refund check that's about $14 even though you paid 80. Still, why let them keep the money?
