I kept receiving calls for “consolidation for my student loan debt”. Fed up with blocking number after number and with time on my hands, I answered. First they wanted to know my name, and I asked who they were trying to reach.
You. Who? Do you have student loan debt? You seem to think I do. Do I? Where did you attend university? Where did I attend? We went back and forth for a while until the man told me I was being “hostile” and hung up. It was good free entertainment while I killed time waiting on something else. It got me thinking: What’s the most fun you’ve had with scammers/telemarketers? |
| I tell them I’m not interested and to remove my name from their call list. |
| Lol- I turned my voice into the count from Sesame Street. I had a scammer call me about a property of mine .. wanting to buy it. Soon as they started talking I changed my voice and said “ONE AH AH AH AHHHH” |
| Check the YouTube channel Kitboga. The guy is hilarious at wasting the scammers’ time. |
| Be nice. This is a horrible job. |
Well- scammers are in Nigeria etc.. so not feeling sorry for them! As for the rest, get another job unless it doesn't impact you so in that case- no need to be nice to them. |
| I was told that I had won some money but I needed to verify some information such as address, DOB and SS#. I cried and wailed on the phone shouting "Praise the Lord". Then they said that I must give the information immediately as the delivery truck needs to deliver the money within the next hour or they will move to the next name on the list. I told them that my spouse should not find out about this prize money and that they should leave it discreetly in the mailbox. Again, I thanked them, I thanked the Lord, I thanked Jesus and kept calling them "my angels"! All this time, my SIL who was present was literally ROFL. I made them swear on their mothers that they were not scam artists, I asked to speak to their legal department, their manager etc...it went on for a long time and then I started laughing in the end so they knew I was having fun. |

I speak in a toddler's sing song voice making it very wispy and dreamy - Helllo! Helllo! Helllo! Byeebyee!
And they keep asking me if my parents are at home. |
| I ask them if they are married, where they are located and how much money they make in their job. I ask them to give me the details so that I can find a suitable person for them. I speak like an old person. |
| Years ago we used to get phone calls on our landlines (always at dinnertime) from overseas pharmacies. DW picked up the phone one night and after they had asked for me said, "Your crappy medicine killed him. He's dead. So you CANNOT talk to him" and hung up. Our children cheered. |
Be careful, all those questions are meant for you to say "yes" and they record it, then they use it to scam you. They will fake sign you up for some costly services and record your "yes" as your agreement to that. This scam has been around for a while and you can google it. Real thing. |
| I speak in make up toungs. After few hello, hello, trying to break my monologue in gibberish, they hang up. |
|
My friend just keeps saying very loudly "hello" "hello".. can you hear me? ..
to which they say yes, I can hear you.. is this Mr. or Mrs.. to which he says "hello, .. Hello!!!! .. I can't hear anything, who is this?.. Hello?.. is this you Petunia?.. I can't hear you, speak up!!!! then there is a click in the receiver. |

My neighbor says that they have a bad connection and asks them to call back on their other line. Then they give them the non-emergency number for the local police department.

It is horrible job but also the people who work there do not make those calls, they are made by the computer and they only speak what they need to say when the call comes up on their side. It is the business owners who are ignoring the "do not call" list and keep calling despite it. Also, scheduling calls for the middle of the dinnertime when nobody who has any decency will call, makes you rush to the phone thinking that this must be some family emergency. How is this fair? |
