| We just adopted a one year old tabby who seems healthy, happy and active; she eats well. But she has really terrible breath that I can smell from several feet away; it goes beyond the garden-variety stinky cat breath. And she’s only one, which I thought was young for gingivitis. I will bring her to the vet on Friday...but has anyone experienced this with their cat? Thanks. |
| Sometimes this suggests an abscess or a rotten tooth. In a cat that goes outside there can be an infected wound as well. |
| Brush his teeth. Get him used to it now, even if it is a rotten tooth or whatever. |
|
Take him to the vet.
I weirdly like my kittens breath, and he will only eat cheap cat food. |
| rotten tooth |
| She won’t let me brush her teeth but I do use the mouthwash in her water. |
| Our cat had bad breath and needed a tooth extracted. She’s got much better breath now. |

Please do not put mouthwash in her water - cats need fresh, clean water.
Human mouthwash is not good for cats. Please take care of her - she has no one else to provide clean water for her. |
| Look up stomatitis. And for the love of god leave her teeth alone until you see the vet. |
Also, if this is it get the teeth all pulled at once. There is no saving them. And toothless cats do just fine. |
Oh gosh, I never gave her human mouthwash. It was the stuff for cats. It turns out it is stomatitis and she will be having her teeth removed. |
NP. I just learned something new today. I'd never heard of a mouthwash for cats before. |
OP here and either had I. I learned about it online when I was googling about my cat’s bad breath. I no longer use it since I now know the true cause of her breath. |
Yes, that is weird. |
