The only reassignments currently being considered are for schools included in the two active boundary studies: 1) Clarksburg/Northwest/Seneca Valley cluster HS and MS, and 2) Forest Knolls/Montgomery Knolls/Pine Crest ES.

The countywide boundary analysis is ongoing, and a report is due in June 2020, but no boundaries will be changed in that report. After the report comes out, the board has the option to authorize additional boundary studies, but that is still TBD.

We do know there will be a boundary study likely in 2024 to decide who attends the reopened Woodward HS starting in 2025.

I think it is likely that the boundary analysis will impact the process used going going forward, including Woodward HS and eventually Crown HS. Personally, I'd like to see the elimination of fixed boundaries associating one neighborhood to one school and have one neighborhood assigned to two or more schools (based on geography or programming) and then have a lottery based on choice, geography, and capacity. That would be a stable process long term, but allow year-to-year flexibility as population in neighborhoods shift.

Which "redistricting" are you referring to, OP?

A lottery would stabilize the process? Are you kidding?

Arlington has some non boundaried elementaries. They opened a new schools and said that anyone who currently lives in X,Y,Z boundaries may attend via lottery. Arlington Science Focus for one.

Any new updates? I thought the whole county was being studied. Howard County just passed it...

The report is expected next June as stated above...

I thought the Somerset/Westbrook boundary change could be implemented for next Fall. Maybe that one doesn’t count because it’s between two elementary schools in the same cluster.

On Tuesday the BOE will vote to authorize the next three boundary studies for:

-reassignment of students at Somerset and Westbrook ESs

-reassignment of students at Rachel Carson and DuFief ESs

-determining the service area for Gaithersburg Cluster ES#8

The Somerset/Westbrook boundary study will be completed a year from now, and the new boundaries will take effect in Fall 2021.

I think middle and high schools are involved no? Particularly the WJ wootton Churchill and Whitman cluster?

BTW, how did QO / Wootton get their own nice little boundary study for Rachel Carson? How did they get away from the Equity Wing? I would think Gaithersburg HS would be thrown in for equity and drama, or perhaps Northwest HS.

The Rachel Carson/DuFief study includes the articulating middle and high schools (Lakelands Park, Frost, QO, and Wootton).

The Gaithersburg ES #8 study includes all the Gaithersburg cluster ESs and MSs.
