We are looking to transition from a 15 y.o minivan to an SUV. Thiking we could replicate the space in a minivan with a 3-row DUV we checked out a few.. Infiniti QX60, Acura RDX & Honda Pilot. The third row seating in ALL of them is terrible! An adult will have to with their knees up and they are so difficult to get in and out of. Not only that, when the third row is up, there's literally no storage space... And each of these vehicles are larger than my minivan so have to deal with parking issues as well.
Are there any SUVs with good third row seating? If not, we are probably better off buying a 5-row SUV.. Save the money and just rent a minivan if/when we need the space (which would be about 2-3 times a year when we have extended family visiting for a week +) |
| They are for the soccer moms. |

I’ve never understood the obsession with the 3rd row SUVs. We have had two. The first we bought because were still young and anti minivan. Kids outgrew being comfy back there at around age 8-9, which is during peak car pool years, IMO.
We have a Honda Pilot and haven’t had the third row seats up since the week it was bought. The only comfy third row I’ve experienced was when I rode on the 3rd row of my neighbor’s Ford Flex. Even then it wasn’t as comfy as a regular backseat. And also, it’s an ugly Ford Flex. |

Not after the kids are 8-9 years old though.. |

| Do you need more of: Passenger seats or storage? Figure that out before you start looking for cars. Also, age of kids. Can any of your kids sit in the front passenger seat? We cannot answer these questions for you. |
Kids are teenagers - Both are close to 6ft. They won't be sitting in the rear seat. However when we have grandparents visiting (often) need for the kids/wife to sit in the third row seat. Need both a proper rear seat that's easier to get in and out of and does not require a normal ht person (5'4" to 5' 7") to pull their knees to their chest AND ability to store at least as much as a Gen 2 Honda odyssey.. |
We have an MDX and it's fine for our teens. None are super tall/massive though. |
You need a Suburban if you want tall adults to sit in the back and/or storage space. |
| If u need adult room in your 3rd row stick with a van. We have 2 kids and 2 dogs and had the Pilot. Dogs had cargo area primarily. But for carpooling to summer camp and occasional day trips with friends we used the 3rd row. It was great for us. Kids in the back ranged from age 4 to 9. |
We have an MDX and a toddler, it's perfect for us. We mostly have the 3rd row down, we keep stroller in back and whatever shopping we do. There have been a few occasions we've needed the 3rd row, and it's been a life saver. Shortest person always goes in the back. Also, the Acura RDX doesn't have a third row, and what is a 5-row SUV? |
| Any thoughts on something like the a Honda Ridgeline truck for a 4 person plus dog family vs a three row SUV? I can’t decide if we need people room or storage. |
I meant 5-person.. |
| A Suburban is a legit 3 row suv with cargo room too. I love mine! |
