Hi there, anyone go to a Honda dealership for car repairs that they feel is fair (as far as dealerships go) in what they do and what they charge, compared to other DMV dealerships? And of course who do a good job on repairs?
Thanks! |
| DARCARS in Bowie has always treated me very well. |
| I know you don't want to hear this, but dealerships will charge you hundreds more for everthing. We took our cars religiously to the dealership for years and years before we saw the light. They are now giving you free coffee, massage chairs, wifi and Manicure Mondays ....and charging you hundreds more everytime. |
We go to Browns Arlington Honda, and while you are right they are not cheap, they don't make-work of recommend to much unnecessary repairs. We have a 10 year old honda, we do the stuff in the maintenance minder, and that's about it. I think I caved once and do the 60000 mile "service special" bc I drive through some dicey neighborhoods and figured a refresh of fluids is not the worst thing, but really its pretty straightforward with them. |
| While the car is under warranty, I take it to the dealer, so that if they find something they can fix it under warranty. Once the car is out of warranty, I don’t go unless there is a recall or it’s a key part I know needs to be from the carmaker. |
| LOL. OP. No such thing. They may "treat" you better, but you will have to pay if you take it in. |

Hi this is OP, good point, you're all correct, and the car is definitely out of warranty now so it would be mostly gouging no matter what.
Here's our situation: it's been parked and not driven for a LOOOONG time. In the driveway. Long story why. I want to get it back in driving shape and registered etc, so I just want a garage to do a really thorough once-over to get it in good shape, take care of what needs taking care of but not add a bunch of stuff that's really fine. Do any of you have mechanics/garages that you think would do a good job and be as fair as possible in price? As close to NE DC as possible would be great, but I'd be happy to know about any great mechanics... Thanks for your honesty everyone! |
Check out Checkbook. They have excellent shops listed based on customer feedback. If you don't have Checkbook subscription, give me your zip code and i can look up for you |
Hill Auto repair on E Street SE near Eastern Market Metro. Brown’s used to be good but tried to get me to have a bunch of things repaired that didn’t need it the last time I was there for a recall. Hill Auto is very good with Hondas. |
| Do NOT use Landmark Honda in Alexandria. Terrible, awful experience there that resulted in a blown motor literally 5 miles after we drove it away from a service appointment, with no acknowledgement or acceptance of responsibility |
| Can't believe Landmark Honda is still in business. I had to go to the Alexandria Department of Consumer Affairs to get money back from them in late 1990s for repairs they claimed to do that I did not authorize. To make matters worse, they then were mad and purposefully did damage to my car, that I had to pay elsewhere to repair. No worries, Alexandria Department of Consumer Affairs got them to pay me back for that too! A little perspective, I was in my early twenties, female, and they attempted to take advantage of me. |
Hi this is OP, I've never heard of Checkbook...? My zip code is 20017, thanks for looking it up! |
Thank you, good to know, I'll check them out too! |
That sounds awful, thanks for the heads up! |
| NOT Ourisman Honda in Bethesda. Numerous bad stories from Honda-owning neighbors about them. |
