Richard Montgomery High School

Does anybody have a child at this school or know someone who attends?

If so, are they happy with the academic/social atmosphere?

We know people that attend and they have mixed things to say. There are two groups of kids there, those who want to get a good educcation and those who don't. That's all I've heard.

I thought it was one of the best highschools in the area- I saw it somewhere on a rating. Cant remember where. It was rated even higher than Walter Johnson.

You may want to consider posting this on the school forum to get more feedback.

My daughter graduated from RM a couple of years ago. She took honors and AP courses and was accepted into the college of her choice. I was disappointed in the school and their administration. You've heard right, there are two groups at RM. The IB kids and AP kids will do fine but if your child is not in those classes they will be stuck with kids who are not all motivated and can be quite disruptive to other students who do want to learn. I remember reading in the Gazette newspaper that students were allowed to spray graffiti on the walls of the old school when the new school was finally finished. Why encourage vandalism at a school that has problems with theft and fighting?

My son is in pre-school but we've already decided that he will not go to RM and are looking to move out of the school district to avoid JWMS and RMHS.

PP - why do you want to avoid JWMS and RMHS? To avoid the group of kids that doesn't care about their education?

No, because my child didn't get a great education there. Mr. Fernandez was a fabulous principal and some of the teachers were good but I felt my friends with children at other schools had better experiences. My child was in the MYP program and I didn't think it was well run, nor did other parents.

interesting! can you please elaborate about the better experiences and why you think the MYP program wasn't run well?
