Too late to seed lawn?

Anonymous
Is it too late for the season, now that there is rain in the forecast? Any suggested varieties?

SEED ASAP, We have decent rain next week or two.

Generally grass seeds need 45 days before first frost (32 degrees) to fully germinate.

however, that is ground temp not air temp. It usually has to below freezing a few nights before ground gets hard.

Good chance seeds will work, as the first blades shoot up in as little as two weeks.

Otherwise wait

We seeded a couple weeks ago but saw a landscaping company seeding a neighbor’s yard this morning.

It is still fine. The seeds that were placed before 2nd summer, didn’t fare so well

Yay, thanks!!! Just choose sun or shade mix? I was reading about cool weather and warm weather varieties and got confused...

Choose sun or shade mix if that's the condition you have in your yard. If you want more specific guidance it's probably worth it to go to a real nursery. Not Home Depot or Ace.

If you have lots of trees, it really is too late.

The leaves are going to be too thick on the ground too soon for the grass to get going.

If you only have shrubs/small trees around your house and don't back to the woods, go for it.
