| For some reason, I can't find the info on the total number of seats available at magnet programs at Eastern and TPMS. Can anyone please give me the ballpark figure? 100 students per program? More? |
|
125 per grade at TPMS.
100 per grade at Eastern |
Thank you!! |
| And for TPMS, it’s 100 seats for out of bounds students and 25 seats for local students. The 100 seats draw from 78 elementary schools. |
| Does Blair have set aside seats for local kids? |
No |
| I teach in the Humanities Magnet. We could accommodate 25 more. |
| Teacher: What type of students do best in the Eastern magnet? Which type of students don't do well? |
Not a teacher - just a parent, so take it or leave it - but my observations are that the students who do best are the ones who a) really want to be there, b) like analytical thinking c) are creative thinkers. Being a voracious reader also helps. The students who don't do well - are students who a) need to be led step by step through analysis b) don't want to be there for whatever reasons c) dislike writing and/or reading |
Are these 78 ES all feed to TPMS ? What about RCMS ? |
There are 134 elementary schools in MCPS, so if 78 feed to TPMS/Eastern then the others feed into RCMS and Clemente. Sixteen high school clusters feed into TPMS/Eastern and nine feed into RCMS/Clemente. |
Sorry, I meant MLK/Clemente, not RCMS/Clemente (which is redundant). |
| What kinds of students do well at TPMS? DC likes math and gets great scores, but claims not to like science. I just think MCPS ES science curriculum is all over the place and things should improve in MS. Is DC a good candidate for TPMS? |
What do you mean? Are the class sizes in magnet classes that small that the program could absorb 25 more students, without hiring more staff or getting another classroom? |
Take the test, and wait for the acceptance letter first, and then consult here for opinions and your DC's opinion matters even more. Don't worry about things that haven't happened yet. |
