What are you getting YOUR dad for the holidays?

Mine is impossible to buy for. Whatever he needs, he buys. He doesn't really have hobbies, unless you include reading every newpaper and periodical known to man. Not a techie, but certainly not technologically incapable. One of his favorite birthdays was the year my sister and aunt didn't coordinate so he got TWO new trash barrels.
Don't get me wrong, I adore him! I want to find him a good gift. Is these something fun/interesting out there that anyone could suggest? I'm thinking in the under $75 range, but open to going a bit above. |

is he handy? would he like tools or something for fixing things?
Does he cook? Maybe a cooking class? (my dad would hate that though) maybe some books or anthologies? new slippers? new bathrobe? some wine or beer? Unique foods or condiments, etc.? restaurant gift certificates All I can say is, give up trying to please the hard to please with presents. I've tried hard to do this but I'm not always successful. My parents are impossible to buy for, so last year I gave them a calendar with photos our collective family. I found out they re-gifted it to my aunt! |

I am buying my dad a GPS, so he would stop straining his eyes to look at maps! Hands down, his favorite gift from me ever was a cone dustbuster....
What about a Kindle? If he likes to read newspapers, he may enjoy it. I hear it is not hard to use. |

Mine's getting a subscription to the smithsonian magazine (and maybe discovery too)- his choices and a gift card to trader joes. (the man lives in there half time!  )

| My dad's the same way. I bought him 2 tickets to a College basketball game - he loves going to the University's basketball games. Also bought him a Book on Tape - he loves listening to those when he travels. |
