I like it way better than calling every boy "Bud."

How about: son, kid, boy, baby, etc. Calling your baby or toddler “little man” is barf inducing.

Also hate little lady, princess, etc. It all just sounds too cutesy and precious, and conjures strict gender stereotypes.

I like little man. I hate little lady. Little man just sounds like he's growing into being a man, but little lady sounds like she's being forced into a female stereotype of a lady. The opposite of little man would be little women.

My dh called our ds "baby man" when he was a baby. I loved it.
