DS has his six month wellness visit on Friday and I am considering what to do about when to vaccinate him against H1N1 and seasonal flu. I was at the ped today with my other child and asked them what they're doing in these cases, and the dr said we'd do whatever I want but it "should be safe" to do all of them. I vaccinate on the AAP schedule but it does seem to me that all of them at once is a lot! Thoughts? If I were to choose to do the flu vaccines together and the six month vax, which would you do first?
We did them all and it was fine.
I wouldn't do them all together. I'd either do the 6 months shots and go back for one of the flu shots in a month/6 weeks or delay the 6 month shots and do one of the flu shots now. I wouldn't do the seasonal and h1n1 together, but that's just me. They say it's safe and I'm sure it is, but they don't know as it's never been done. I guess my thought it is, with a "new" vaccine, why muddy the waters by giving it with other vaccines. "Should be safe" wouldn't be the most comforting for me. As you can see i tend to be a bit more neurotic though! : )
I am incredibly pro-vaccine and we got them all on the AAP schedule, but I tend to agree with this. I'm sure it's fine, but at that age, I would just do the usual 6 month shots and make an appointment for the other two in a couple of weeks. Seasonal flu hasn't picked up yet and H1N1 is in a lull, so you should be safe waiting a bit, and it seems like more shots are available every week. I would definitely get the shots, just space both flu ones from the regular ones - if nothing else for your peace of mind! |
I got all normal vacs on schedual, the flu shot times up with DC's 12 month short and I told them I would come back and get it an other day, they wanted to give it but I just felt better getting it another time.
We vax on the regular schedule and I rearranged my schedule to separate DC's seasonal and H1N1 by 1-2 weeks. DC did get the first reg flu vax with all the other 6 mo shots. Probably safe, but if the shots can cause mild "flu like" symptoms, I didn't want to double the effects of the shots by getting them together.
