Based on the other thread of non-magnet 9th grade homework load, how bad is the homework load at RM IB? Especially for a 9th grader? In that other thread, someone mentioned their DC is done with homework by 9:45 and they do 2 activities.
How doable is it to handle the homework load, a sport and possibly a travel sport? |
| LOL.. I'm that PP. I guess it depends on the person. My DC is pretty efficient, and mostly organized. FWIW I hear that 9th grade is the worst in terms of HW load because many of the kids aren't used to that much HW and don't know how to manage it. |

In addition to each student being different in terms of efficiency and grades they are shooting for, it also depends which middle school DC is coming from.
Students from the MS test-in magnets have less adjustment. Because JW has such a large cohort, except for the top few, they usually have the biggest adjustment. |
This pp here.. DC has 3.5 activities (half activity is just one day). I think the travel sport might be hard unless your DC can really buckle down while traveling and do HW. One of DC's activities doesn't allow doing HW, and it's quite a long activity. Those times can be tough on DC, and DC really has to buckle down on the days surrounding that activity day. I find that most large HW assignments are not due the next day, so your DC would really need to learn to manage the time and not procrastinate. |
| RMIB hw is very heavy. You cannot compare with regular school kids or even other MCPS magnet kids. |
Define quite a long activity
DC was thinking of doing a fall sport, spring sport and then a year round club team. Is that doable with the IB workload provided they are efficient and can manage their time? |
From right after school, home around 8. DC also does a sport that has practices a couple of times per week, and another activity that requires DC to be gone most of the weekend every other month. I think above is possible. |
Thank you! |
