Help narrow down the choices for 2nd car in the family

Anonymous
Husband needs a new car. Currently drives a 10 year old Sonata. I drive a newer minivan in good condition that we use for road trips, family outings, etc.

We are feeling sort of overwhelmed at the choices for DH. Budget is $25-$30k, cash. He is tall (6'4") and has a bum knee that he needs to be able to straighten completely from time to time. He does drive our 2 kids around a fair amount and needs a comfortable backseat for them. We are mostly looking at mid size sedans (like Sonata, Camry size) or mid size SUV's like CRV, Mazda CX5, etc. but open to any/all suggestions. We will likely buy the car brand new and keep for 10 years. Reliability/longevity is a priority. But so is driver handling and driver/passenger comfort.

Ideas, thoughts?

I would go with the CRV or maybe the RAV4.

Both brands@ are very famous for being very reliable & have the highest resell value if you decide to sell later on.

I just bought a 2018 CRV and am happy with it aside from the fact it doesnt have a CD player. My car prior to that was a 2007 Pilot.

We just bought a Hyundai Santa Fe and LOVE it. You can also drive the Tucson is you want a little smaller.

There are still some 2019 Subarus (Forester or Outback) on the lots if he's willing to accept whatever is leftover.

For $30K cash, he will get a fully loaded 2019 vehicle with MSRP of $35-37K.

A Forester or Outback will easily last 10 years with regular maintenance.

I will also add that a fully loaded Subaru feels more luxurious than a CR-V or RAV4 at the same price point. I recently test drove all of them and the Subaru is the best value, IMHO, while still getting 30+ MPG.

We love our Santa Fe Sport! Can't believe it's already 4 years old... We were replacing our beloved Subaru and did a lot of comparison shopping of mid-size SUVs. We felt the Hyundai gave us the most comfortable ride and a lot of "extras" for the price.

I'd get a legacy

Those SUV's are very small. Get a bigger one.

Not sure if it is still the case with Foresters, but they used to be a good fit for tall people. We had a 2014 and got rid of it because of the transmission was a CVT and that year was having lots of problems. Not sure how the new ones are doing.

Outback is comfortable with great visibility. Mine is not fully loaded and still comfortable. Newer ones have some cool technology for safer driving supposedly.

Subaru Legacy. DH is tall and it's his daily driver. His seat is all the way back for leg space and we can still fit a rear facing car seat behind it. Love the car! Ours is a 2015.
