HCG levels not “doubling perfectly”

Anonymous
I am 5w5d today and did my 4th beta test today (FET of day 5 embryo).. my numbers started low but then more than doubled but for the latest result it showed a 53 hour doubling time. Wanted to see if anyone has any input? My first three betas were low but all more than doubled faster than the textbook 48 hour timeframe. Since the most recent beta results implies I haven’t done a “textbook double” every 48 hours I’m starting to worry

1st beta @ 8dp5dt — 19.8
2nd — 12dp5dt — 89.9
3rd — 15dp5dt - 373
4th - 21dp5dt - 2444 (calculated 53 hour doubling time since last beta)

I know that HCG slows down after it hits 1200, so I’m hoping that’s the case. I just hate how anything outside of perfect raises the fears somethings wrong. Anyone have anything similar?

You can check betabase.info to compare doubling times. 5w5d is late to still be doing betas. The information is less helpful at this point. Will you be getting an u/s soon?

Please, with all due respect and kindness, step away from the internet. You are pregnant. Over analyzing beta doubling hours when you have decent numbers is not what you want to be doing. Set some boundaries for yourself and trust that this pregnancy is really happening.

Boundaries? I don’t disagree with you advice but “boundaries” is so overused and used so incorrectly. This has nothing to do with “boundaries”.

OP, talk to your doctor. Posting here will get you “everything is fine” posts as well as tragic stories that have nothing to do with your pregnancy.

People can set boundaries for themselves. “I’m going to limit myself to only reading relationship forums here on DCUM and stay away from the Pregnancy ones because I’m overthinking this.

+1

Beta base is helpful. When is your u/s scheduled?

In my experience FET betas can be off. Slow in beginning. At this point, I’d wait for u/s for more info.

Fingers crossed, OP. I know it’s so tough.

I think you’ll just have to wait for the ultrasound. If you are having one next week then there is a reasonable chance that you will see a heartbeat.

thank you all my ultrasound is next week at 6 week 5 days. So has ANYBODY ever observed a 48 hour+ doubling time as betas go up?

OP -- a couple of things to think about:

1) If your betas aren't doubling appropriately, there's nothing you can do about it, so all the information will do is stress you out while whatever is going to happen happens.

2) There are a lot of these kinds of steps along the way in pregnancy, and for almost all of them, there's nothing you can do to affect the outcome. It will take practice, but training your mind not to focus on what you can't control is the only way to make it through without turning yourself into a wreck.

Good luck.

I had similar numbers with two embryos

Mine increased over the first few draws and then slowed in a similar way. It was my first BFP from many rounds of IVF and I was so scared same as you. I posted here and used the beta calculators every day. My pregnancy was successful. Hoping the same for you. Congrats!

I was blissfully unaware of the whole beta thing with my first two pregnancies but after a MMC I all too well understand the whole concept of “beta hell”. I’m the poster below at 5w pregnant with the low and slow #s. I don’t have anything too helpful to add but just wanted to say good luck and fingers crossed for you

I had similar numbers and miscarried just after 6 weeks. I got pregnant again immediately. This pregnancy the numbers are much stronger.

Thanks I’m thinking of you too and hope for the best. Did you get your results back? I did another blood draw at 23dp5dt or 28 dpo and beta numbers went to 4332 which is a 96 hour doubling time. I will just have to wait and see now.

Try not to obsess. There’s very little you can control in pregnancy, birth, and as a parent. Agree with the PP that you have to try not to drive yourself crazy. Take a hot shower, go for a walk, watch a movie, read a book, meditate or whatever you can do to distract yourself.
