Sidwell and NCS in New York City

Anonymous
Hi-DD will be applying to Sidwell and NCS for high school. She will be attending public high school in MC if not admitted to one of those schools. I just learned that our family may have to relocated to NYC for work (wont know till January), so I would like to also explore private independent options in NYC. I'm not interested in hearing how competitive the independent schools in NYC are as I'm already aware of that. I would like to know which independent schools in NYC would loosely correlate to Sidwell or NCS since we've narrowed our search to those options here.
Again, I'd really appreciate thoughts or suggestions on which independent schools in NYC share some of the similar social-emotional philosophies and/or environments as Sidwell and NCS.

Thanks to those who share names of schools.

I’ve heard good things about the Spence School.

Sidwell and NCS are 2 very different schools.

What elements for "similar social-emotional philosophies" are you looking for?

For Ncs - Chapin and Spence are closest - not sure for aidwell

A Sidwell family moved to Trinity.. but it's much harder to get into.

NCS - Brearley

Brearley is closest.

Brearley is closest to NCS.

Spence and Chapin are good schools but very rich students. Billionaire parents. Girls become socialites.

For coed schools look at Friends Seminary, Trinity and Horace Mann.

If you live in MoCo now, advice is to buy in Bronxville and go to the local high school. Express train to midtown is quick and no need to worry or navigate the NYC private scene. Bronxville HS is a de facto private school.

Horace Mann is closest to Sidwell in terms of feel, but you may want to look at Columbia Prep as well.

Umm ... no. My sister went to Horace Mann. If Sidwell is supposed to be Quaker, Horace Mann is nothing like that. Friends Seminary is an actual Quaker school.

If what you want is a prestigious school, then sure -- Horace Mann.

Isn't Columbia Prep considered pretty second-tier? I wouldn't think of it as being on the academic level of Sidwell and NCS.

Columbia Prep has s more like 3rd tier. Trinity and HM are closet to Sidwell in terms of prestige but the schools will feel very different from Sidwell, esp Horace Mann.

Dalton?

Dalton-Sidwell, Brearley-NCS

But if you’re looking at these, you should also look at Horace Mann, Trinity, Spence and Chapin. If you want Quaker, Friends Seminary. Columbia Prwp is not on the same level as these schools.
