Private & Independent Schools
| Does anyone have feedback on this school? Interested in lower / middle school feedback. Thanks! |
| I am actually considering it for my daughter for next year. I've heard only good things about the school, other than tuition gripes. All the parents I've talked to like it and are happy they chose the school, their children are progressing well. The only real concern is location, I don't know where you live or work, but making that drive down Forest Drive in rush hour is truly horrific. If you happen to live in PG County, there is a chartered bus that transports, along with children from Key. If you have any specific questions, I can probably put you in touch with a current parent. As a side note, have you looked at the other Annap area schools, Key and St Martins and St. Andrews? |
Thanks for the feedback! Nope haven't looked at other schools in Annap., but have had a tour of St. Anne's. My neighbor's daughter goes to St. Anne's and they seem to like it so far. I actually live in Bowie and have been researching Friends Community School (in College Park) as well. I read a lot of good remarks about Friends Community School in this Forum. I also read great things about Rockbridge Academy in Millersville. My daughter is just 3 yrs and currently in daycare, but I'm using this time to gather information about schools in PG and Anne Arundel County. |
| Planning to visit St. Anne's as well. I heard good things about it from several parents in the Bowie area. |
|
Another option, if you are willing to go to Millersville then check out Indian Creek in Crownsville.
|
To the PP, do you know of anyone whose child or children attend or have attended Indian Creek? If so, what were their thoughts? Never heard of the school. |
|
Indian Creek: I know some families that have attended and are there now. They think it is a great school, very pleased with it. The biggest issues are cost, higher than most in the county (because they have a ton of teachers, very small classes and they have 2 campuses to upkeep). The other issue is that college choices were not that great, as far as acceptance to top tier schools but they feel that will improve since last year was the first graduating class (or maybe it was the second). Great after school care options and they have a great bus route. I considered it for my dd but it is so out of the way for my daily commute. If I was commuting to Ft. Meade or Baltimore then I'd choose it hands down. They have a great program for children that have finished kindergarten but still aren't ready for first grade, a pre-first year that gives them the extra boost and they are very hands on if your child needs extra help thru the years.
As a side thought, if diversity is important to you, then keep in mind most AA county private schools are not diverse. The only standouts are Key and St. Anne's in Annapolis and the catholic high school in Millersville/Severn and that's only achieved thru children coming from PG County. |
Great insight about the diversity...Thanks! I actually commute to Annapolis Junction/Ft. Meade from Bowie every morning for work by taking Rt. 3 to 32. I could also get to my job via B/W Pkwy as well...This leaves me with several school options for my daughter along any of those commuting routes. I know of a family who lives in Bowie and their son attends Rockbridge Academy. Overall, they are very happy with the school. Its a Christian school with a pretty rigorous academic curriculum. Unfortunately, the school is not very diverse. However, I may still go to the open house in Jan. out of curiosity. |
Bus service would be a huge help. Do you know the bus's specific route? |
|
St. Anne's shares the bus with The Key School, see this link and scroll down and you'll see the contract and schedule

Not the OP, but I'm very interested to hear from current parents of St Martin's and also Chesapeake Academy in Arnold. The latter at least looks much more interesting to me than Indian Creek, but I've only toured Chesapeake Academy thus far.
Thanks for any help. |
| Chesapeake Academy has a great rreputation but its location is in the middle of traffic jams. If you live and work in Annapolis then fine but imagine trying to pick up your child in the middle of traffic when the Severn Bridge has an accident or on a Friday in May/June. |
| Thanks so much for the info re Chesapeake Academy. We're likely moving to Severna Park this summer, so location is fine for us. It looks great, but I've not been able to find much info on it, which makes me a little nervous. |
| If you're looking into an Episcopal school in Annapolis, why not look at Holy Trinity EDS? It's a gem of a school and if you truly value diversity, then that would be the obvious choice. Love this school! |
| To the poster looking for info on Chesapeake Academy. If you are moving to Severna Park, it has some of the better schools in AA County so you may not even need to do private. Definitely look into the publics around where you will live. |
