Hi I so need help fing an at home coloring product that is semi permanent
since it's my first time going solo. I have been getting a tri color job at the salon to lighten my hair and make it look less unicolor plus cover up greys ( not many but enough to bother me). I have dark brown hair but with the coloring my hair is a mix of med brown shades. Any recommended products? Also I tried buying a root kit and after testing realized how OFF the color wAs. How can I get professional help on picking a kit? Thanks for any help. |
| I've used Natural Instincts with good results. |

Using home coloring kits you can expect to lighten 2 levels and cover gray. This is how the level system works. You say your darkish brown. Dark brown is a level 4, medium brown is a level 5. If you tend to throw off gold or red, and don't like it, ash will supress that. If you like the warmth of gold and red, choose a neutral color or a color with gold tones.
Tints are all over color with 2 level lifts. So you could expect to cover gray, and lighten to a warm or cool light brown. I suggest a level 6 tint by L'Oreal Excellence cream. Now you choose the tone, gold, neutral or ash. You say you want a semi-permanent. There are none on the market that I am aware of. Anytime you mix 2 things together, it is not semi-permanent. I think Garnier has a low level of chemical sheer colors. They tend to not cover gray as well and might not wash out completely. How high are your highlights? If they are lightened to a blond (meaning stripped of much of it's color in places), you will need to go to the salon and get your hair "filled" and then you can move into a 2 level lift tint. I like the Excellence cream because it is easier to do roots first as the instructions indicate (something that you pay for in a professional setting). Application is important after repeated colorings. If you want more information, all the 800 number on the Excellence color kit. You can get it right off the box without even buying it. They are well trained and very helpful. |
