The Homestead during winter time?

Anyone visit The Homestead during winter/snow months? I usually stay there during the spring and summer and am curious if there are alternative or safer routes up the mountain? We have a SUV that is bigger on luxury than off road driving and after multiple trips I am little weary of the drive during turbulent weather.
