Am I the only one who breathed a sigh of relief when I saw this? I have been feeling nothing but regret about buying a home in Columbia Heights and watching violence continue to climb. Hopefully this is the start of more initiatives to keep our neighborhoods safe.

Making it a more obvious police-state isn’t going to make your neighborhood safer.

The police and mayor are only one part of this.

The AG, the PDS judges, and the joke of a juvenile justice system will continue to betray victims as offenders commit crime after crime with no meaningful consequence.

2nd the joke of a juvenile justice system. These kids pretty much prey on other kids. I like the idea of kids committing serious crimes being kept off the streets until their brains mature at 27. In DC we go the other way--revolving door so they repeatedly re-offend with impunity.

It doesn't matter if more police are on the streets. What's more important (and not happening) is changing the type of policing and restructuring how offenses are handled. MPD needs to bring back vice (which was disbanded in 2015) to crime hot spots like Shaw, Park View, and Columbia Heights. No more leniency, "no papering," and catch-and-release for the many offenders who know they can act with impunity because they'll be free to commit crime with minimal repercussions after release.

Lemme guess you wanna bring back the "good ol' days" when young offenders would get locked up for spitting on the sidewalk and shipped off to chain gangs down south for 10/15 years.

Progressive hysteria. How quaint.

No more quaint than conservative hysteria.

Disarming the police would be a good first step. That way they don’t look like an occupying army in places where people raise their children.

No. I’m referring to a common-sense, happy medium. I’m progressive, I pay my share of taxes, and I don’t think it’s unreasonable to want police to handle a well-known, recurrent issue to ensure public safety.

I guess progressives don't pearl clutch when they're hysteric... maybe they clutch their whole foods recyclable bags?

Your taxes aren’t nearly as high as they should be.

So the chief is putting more cops on the street in trouble areas and y’all are complaining about what, exactly?
