We just got an email from our BSC coach saying that the club has made a session of futsal required for this winter, where before it was just optional.
Anyone else hear this from their team? Obviously it's utter BS...we signed a contract with the club at the beginning of the year, and they can't force more money out of us now, which is why I want to see if it's just a misunderstanding, or a real thing. |
I'm not with the club any more, but that would be the most BSC thing ever. Plus, that futsal league is so badly run, I'm not surprised they have to try and force people to sign up. |

BSC Futsal is a joke. It's basically just intramural with one or two teams thrown in to make it seem like a league.
But them making it mandatory is typical of those money grabbers. |
| Just say u have a conflict or a school issue or an ill relative etc. "Sorry, can't do it this year.. next year for sure ". |
No, tell them to go screw themselves in as nice a way as possible. You shouldn't need an excuse to avoid being extorted by your club. With that said, I've got a U12 boy in BSC, and I haven't heard anything about this yet, so I'd like to hear some confirmation before I get really pissed. |
I have the original email from club (as manager they CCed me). The club wants every coach to have a team to participate session 2 of the BSC futsal league. It does not ask every player to participate. |
| For more money?!? |
Can you share the full email please? |

Sounds like your coach and manager flat out lied to your team.
Still like to see the actual email though. |
How much is it? |
| Sounds like it’s mandatory for the coach but not the players. You still need enough to field a team but Futsal teams are small so not the entire regular team. If nobody signs up then you won’t have to field a team. |
Not much...around $1000 per team, so about $150 if you have 7 kids. I was planning to sign up anyway, but it's the principle of it...don't like being lied to to try and get more money out of us. |
| Our manager said that he understood that the Bethesda leadership told coaches and managers that it was mandatory for families to do at least one session. I view it as a kind of ham-handed way to ensure that there is decent competition for everyone who want to participate. What will happen is the same thing that happens every year: the folks who want to do it will do it, and the folks who don't, won't. I'd be extremely surprised if there is any enforcement for participation or any repercussions for those who don't do it. |
I think they mis-interpreted it. It is not mandatory for families, it is for coaches. BSC can not force their players to participate something that is outside of the registration fees. Here is the word-to-word copies of the email: "Session II is mandatory for ALL Bethesda SC Teams. " "If your team does not have enough players to form a team, players can register as an individual and a Bethesda Staff Coach will coach the team" |
| I got the same initial email from our BSC coach, but then a follow up today clarifying that both sessions are optional, but recommended. |
