Puts everything in perspective

I just got a text from my child. A freshman committed suicide at her school early this morning. This weekend was Parents Weekend.

Some poor family is dealing with this news today.

I don't know any details (except it is a boy) and do not want to share the school name. But I am heartbroken. And so grateful that my child is healthy, and has transitioned well to college.
All the little battles and worries get put in perspective a times like this.

Yikes. That's terrible. My niece is a college freshman, and someone from her dorm committed suicide the first week of school.

I don't remember a single suicide during my time in college. My other niece graduated from high school in a class that had one suicide and another student murdered.


Kids have to deal with so much today.

We didn't talk about these things years ago, though. You can't assume it didn't happen.

A girl on my hall committed suicide my freshman year in the fall of 82. It happened back then too. It wasn’t talked about as much.

What a tragedy.

I certainly wasn't suicidal at the time, but I do remember parents weekend as one of the worst weekends of my life. So much pressure from my mom to do college the way she thought I should be doing college...

Did he play football by any chance? I have been hearing so much about CTE recently, it’s the first thing I think about when you say a male college student committed suicide.
