I have an old Honda Odyssey van with about 170K miles on it. A mechanic I trust told almost 3 years ago that one of the axles and struts were either broken or failing and could go "anytime". Chose not to fix it since I had planned on replacing the van. Thing is I haven't gotten around to replacing the van yet and I have driven 25K miles since then including 2 long distance trips.. How big a deal are those things? Worth replacing?
As you can see, I don't know much about cars/vans. |
| OP again.. If anyone knows and can share approximate costs for replacing these components I'd appreciate it. That will also drive my buy vs. fix decision (again). I don't recall the estimate the original mechanic provided. |
| I have a 2004 Odyssey with 191k. Never replaced it. |

Yes. They are a pretty big deal.
I assume when you say “axle” you mean a CV joint. For that, maybe 100 bucks for a rebuilt one. An hour to replace. More if rusted badly. Struts? How many? probably under 100 each. Time depends on how rusted they are. |
