| Hi, can someone tell me which workbook is best for CogAT testing for the 3rd grade? Thanks! |
| Nope. |
| FCPS has been adding complex questions. You need your third grader to practice paper folding practically and from amazon books. Then move to verbal section and make sure your child understands as well as reads a lot more. Math is very easy and aligns with regular math you study at school. |
Right? The Fairfax Cogat is totally different than the regular Cogat. Much much harder, totally different questions. |
| Thanks - will do paper folding exercises- what else can we do? |
There are Cogat prep classes that you can enroll your child in. Of course, the smart kids don't take those classes. Make of that what you will. |
Oh please. You have no clue the IQ of the kids in the prep classes or if some of the kids who don’t take the prep classes have been going to Kumon since preschool or if the parents are at home using enrichment materials. Or if they are doing all of the above. |
IOW, OP's child is out of luck. |
| Fairfax gives their own version of the CogAT? What if you have your child take it at GMU? What version do they use? |
| GMU uses the normal CogAT. I think the Fairfax version is only for 2nd grade. One of my kids took it in 3rd, and the score report looks like a normal CogAT. |
Interesting. Is it harder? Easier? Are the scores viewed the same by the AAP review panel? My daughter had the option to retake the 3rd grade at her elementary school but we opted for GMU instead for a variety of reasons. Wonder if we'd done the one with the school if it would have been different than the one at GMU. |
