Any advice: Traveling to NYC with 7-month old

Any advice for a FTM? We are driving to NYC from DC for the weekend. Any hints. tips, advice? How do we handle taxi rides? TIA.

Are you looking for advice about the logistics of the drive or for your stay in NY? We've done this drive a bunch of times, but it was easy because DD at that age took a 2 hour nap in the morning and a 2 hour nap in the afternoon so we just took a long lunch break and only drove while DD was napping. Or we just leave at night before DD goes to sleep and she will sleep the entire way. If you don't have ezpass, get it now, pay whatever you have to so it arrives before your trip. We used a baby carrier (bjorn) a lot walking around in NY, there were so many people walking around DD had a great time looking around. We didn't cab at all, we just stuck to one area and made family come to us, and we went to restaurants near our hotel. But if you do cab, put your infant seat in the middle of the back seat (facing backwards) and just use the middle lap seatbelt to strap it in, there are 2 prongs on the front of the car seat that the seat belt slips under. What works for us driving home is that we leave in the morning before DD's nap and drive until we hit the outlets at Perryville (I think it is exit 193) in northern Maryland, it is about 1 hour and 20 minutes north of DC. We then hang out there for a while and get lunch and walk around. Unfortunately, both the lunch options and the shopping options are limited but it is the only place I know of right off the highway and I don't get many opportunites to force DH to go shopping with me. There is also a big outdoor playground there that will be great for DD when she is a bit older.
