Consultant to help find treatment (drug) or therapeutic school? Need options

Anonymous
My teen is out of control and we’ve tried everything. He just doesn’t care. Life centered on weed and his friends. I think we all need some space to regroup as we are at the end of our rope. Does anyone know a consultant in this area?

No but if you are expecting your health insurance to cover it, your insurer probably has a list of covered programs. It’s a good way to start. Also if you are looking for residential, you’re going to have to travel out of the area for it.

Yes, I know friends have used one. I'll try to find out.

Try All Kinds of Therapy. It was founded by a DC native with lots of experience with therapeutic schools. https://www.allkindsoftherapy.com/

I would have this moved to special needs forum

Therapeutic school and/or a residential treatment center would be appropriate if your DC has a mental health diagnosis like depression or anxiety in addition to the substance abuse issue. You would be looking specifically for programs with what is called a "dual diagnosis" focus. If your DC does have a mental health diagnosis, I recommend working with the School Counseling Group in DC.

If the issue is substance abuse only, you'd be looking at different kinds of programs--rehabs, basically.

Not all residential treatment programs require dual diagnosis. Some very good ones will accept for substance abuse only.
