| My teen is out of control and we’ve tried everything. He just doesn’t care. Life centered on weed and his friends. I think we all need some space to regroup as we are at the end of our rope. Does anyone know a consultant in this area? |
| No but if you are expecting your health insurance to cover it, your insurer probably has a list of covered programs. It’s a good way to start. Also if you are looking for residential, you’re going to have to travel out of the area for it. |
| Yes, I know friends have used one. I'll try to find out. |
| Try All Kinds of Therapy. It was founded by a DC native with lots of experience with therapeutic schools. https://www.allkindsoftherapy.com/ |
| I would have this moved to special needs forum |

Therapeutic school and/or a residential treatment center would be appropriate if your DC has a mental health diagnosis like depression or anxiety in addition to the substance abuse issue. You would be looking specifically for programs with what is called a "dual diagnosis" focus. If your DC does have a mental health diagnosis, I recommend working with the School Counseling Group in DC.
If the issue is substance abuse only, you'd be looking at different kinds of programs--rehabs, basically. |
Not all residential treatment programs require dual diagnosis. Some very good ones will accept for substance abuse only. |
