| I have been amazed at the latest NCAA RPI rankings. Schools who were in the top 10 may be 50th now, schools that were in the 30s are in the 200s now. I don't remember so much shake up the past couple of years. VA Tech is now in the top 10, which I can't ever remember them being before. I know, of course, like high school, college soccer is all over the place, but I thought it was a little more consistent than this. I was wondering for those who have followed it for a while and have more than theoretical knowledge, what they thought. |
| NCAA Women's soccer has a transfer problem. |

Too much emphasis on W-L-T record, and not enough on strength of schedule, albeit a much more difficult metric to measure. VaTech is undefeated at 9-0, but will now face the strong portion of its schedule with the next four games against top-ten ranked teams. Should be interesting.
As always, none of it really matters until being seeded for the NCAA tourney, then anyone can prove themselves #1. I guess perception matters for recruiting, as does a historical record of success, but academic fit for kids of recruiting age is still more important to me. |

It's nice to see so many VA and DC area teams in the top 20--3 for women and 4 for men (and where's last year's national men's champs, Maryland?!).
In addition to the vagaries of conference/non-conference schedules mentioned above, a lot of times programs will lose a bulk of players to graduation, or there can be coaching changes. Either situation will take a while to adjust to. |
Theyre 4-3. its the same as other college sports- youre ranked on your current play |
I know, they were just so strong last year. They did lose a lot of key players. Much more shocking is that Akron and Michigan State, two of the other final four teams from last year, are winless so far. Akron is 0-6. |
Maryland's pre-conference schedule this year is ridiculous. In a good way. They'll be back in the rankings once they get to the easy part of their schedule.
