I'm 30 weeks pregnant and suffer from GERD when I'm NOT pregnant so medicating my heartburn is a necessity.
This carcinogens in the zantac scare is alarming me though. I spent a long time working to get off PPIs and really don't want to take one. I could switch to pepcid but it is less effective. Has anyone talked about this with the OBs? I heard pharmacies are selling existing stock and then it is going off the market until they can figure it out. I bought enough yesterday to get me through my pregnancy but wondering if this is wise? https://www.nytimes.com/2019/09/19/health/zantac-recall.html |

I was the one that had to tell my OB about. He hadn't heard.
I've switched to Pepcid on my own initiative. It's okay. I'm basically just counting the days down to delivery and doing the best I can to eat and drink. I take the max Pepcid every day and basically never eat a full meal, just small snacks. I might feel differently if I had GERD pre-pregnancy. |
| I take 1-2 Tums every night before bed and it definitely helps with my reflux. This Zantac news is enough to make me and my husband stop using it, but I haven't asked my OB about it. |
| Sleep with a wedge. Don’t eat late. Those all helped me. |
This is the kind of response I just don't understand on DCUM. OP has hereditary GERD. Which means even when not pregnant has acid reflux that needs to be controlled with medication. How on earth could this be helpful? I mean if you have nothing constructive to offer that is fine, but acting like OP hasn't just tried sleeping with a wedge? That is like telling women suffering from hyperemesis they just need to suck on some ginger. Just totally dismissive of the severity of the problem being dealt with. |
