Infertility Support and Discussion
I recently had a miscarriage at 4-6 weeks -- I didn't bleed until almost 6 weeks, but the sono showed it had developed only until about 4.5 weeks. I just got a call from my dr's office saying my progesterone was low. I *think* this was at the 6-week blood draw (as I was miscarrying). I have a follow-up appt with the dr this Friday but was wondering if anyone knows anything about this. Could I have had low progesterone *because* I was miscarrying, or could the low progesterone have *caused* the miscarriage? Or could either have been the case? I had a pregnancy 2.5 years ago that resulted in DD; no miscarriages prior to that first pregnancy.
Unless they measured your progesterone earlier in your pregnancy, I don't think you'll ever know. I'm sorry about your loss. It is a really easy thing to take progesterone suppositories in your 2ww from now on, so I would do that, just to cover the possibility.
Thanks. I'm hoping that the doctor will suggest something like that. Should I see a RE or any other specialist?
I'm really sorry. Yes, unfortunately it could go either way. The progesterone could be dropping because of hte miscarriage, or you could miscarry because of low progesterone. PP is right, they now give lots of people progesterone in the 2 week wait just in case. Best of luck to you.

I am so sorry. The same thing happened to me five years ago. I actually was on the suppositories for about a week, but it didn't stop the m/c that was to come. I could never get a verification whether the low pro was a symptom or a cause. My next pregnancy about 3 months later had a slightly low pro, and the dr was watching for it. I went on the suppositories again and had a successful pregnancy.
Best wishes and good luck. |
i used provera at the start of my ivf cycle and progesterone suppositories in the 2ww. I am currently 14 wks with a girl.
