Justice HS

How come Justice HS is so inferior to other FCPS area high schools? Test scores are appalling, material in IB classes isn’t always covered? Does anybody care?

If you have children there you must have some theories

They cared enough to change the name of the school to something that ALL students can be proud of...and one which will inspire ALL students, of ALL races to achieve their potential. Oh,wait....what??

How many tutors could they have paid with that money? Or, teachers? Or instructional aides? or a summer program?

Troll thread by Republican still upser about getting rid of the Confederate name.

Teachers can’t do everything. Kids need to get some training at home. Perhaps this isn’t happening in that particular school boundary.

not many

They made a serious mistake with IB vs AP. This is a turn off for a lot of affluent parents although the School Board refuses to admit it or change the program in the lower income schools.

OP here. Just an FYI,...I am an independent taxpayer. I've voted for both parties off and on for the last 40 years in Fairfax County. Just throwing in my two cents regarding the fiscal madness and political correctness which is running amuck in this county. I have a multiracial grandchild in the first grade in FCPS. (who is living in my home with his mother, my wife and I). You DON'T know me.

You just proved PP’s point. I’m sure you know a lot about what gets covered in an IB class at Justice with a grandkid in first grade, cranky grandpa.

OP here again. As a matter of fact, I do know. My stepdaughter graduated from Thomas Edison 19 years ago with an IB diploma. I am also a retired FCPS high school teacher of an AP subject, and while I never taught IB, I was very well acquainted with the curriculum. PP insinuated that I was somehow a racist who actually gave a rotten apple about the Confederate name. I don't. I care about how county revenue continues to be mismanaged and misappropriated. Your "cranky grandpa" insult just proves to me that you are just like the PP. You don't KNOW me.

All students have to take the SOL. When you have students are still learning English, they just aren’t going to score as well on these standardized tests. Doesn’t mean they aren’t smart or aren’t learning. It’s just that the academic language of such tests make passing them difficult.

Some of us don't want to KNOW you! You still haven't said anything that reveals any familiarity with Justice HS, past or present.

The catchment area for Justice contains some of the poorest kids in the county, many in families with limited English skill.

Their test scores are low, but that doesn't mean Justice is doing a bad job for the students educated there.

I have former colleagues who taught there when it was JEB Stuart twenty years ago. It's still basically the same SES that it was back then. I guess none of us really KNOW each other, here on the anonymous forum known as DCUM.....and that is indeed a good thing. It works for all of us.
