Uppababy Vista: Do I need the flight bag to gate check?

Anonymous
We have a lot of travel coming up in the next few months. When flying, we plan to have DS in his car seat on the plane, but also want to bring our stroller. Should we buy the Uppababy flight bag (which has some sort of damage insurance attached) or is it a waste of money?

I would not hate check a vista. Is he in an infant seat still or convertible? Buy a smaller stroller.

You need to check the airlines' websites to make sure the Vista isn't too big to gate check. Last time I flew with it a year ago, it was too big for American which has a weight limit, and I think I checked a few other airlines and it was too big for those as well.

+2. We got a good deal on an open box g-lite. I love the vista but it would be a bear to travel with. Just getting it in and out of the trunk is a pita.
Ours came with a travel bag though, op are you sure you don't have one?

We use a Vista for our everyday stroller needs, but we have a smaller stroller for travel that can fit in the overhead compartment or be gate checked. The Vista is too bulky for travel.

This is what I had. You will have to put everything you gate check through the x ray. I don't think that a vista would fit. I had a horrible time trying to figure out how to make the carseat fit through.

No way would I gate check that without a bag. It's too expensive of a stroller. They really do bang them around. We have a city select and stroller bag that we gate check. United lets us fly with it

I gate checked the vista many times in 2015-2016. In order to get it through the xray machine, you just have to pop off the back wheels, and that's very easy to do. If you have the travel bag, you have to pop them off anyway in order to pack it.

We got the travel bag, and I'd recommend it. The second time we flew with it, the bag was damaged (ripped), and Uppababy sent us a replacement bag at no charge. The stroller itself was unharmed.
