What’s a fair rate these days for a mother’s helper? I have a lovely 11yo helper who plays with my kids, 2 and 6.5, for a couple of hours while I get stuff done. I do step in to help if the 2yo needs extra hands, but otherwise she’s got it covered. She charges $6/hr which feels like such a small amount. I’d like to pay her more but that’s what she and her mom agreed on.
What do you pay your helper? |
Just do the $6 and round up the end of each day if you feel it's too low. |
I had a girl come over who asked for $12/hour. I thought it was too much. $6 is way too low. I’d pay $10 |
It is to little . If you want good care pay more 12 to 15 is good |
For a mother’s helper?? No. For a full fledged babysitter, $12-$15 is reasonable. For an 11 yo who is just playing with your kids, $6-$8 seems reasonable. |
Since the mother was involved, I would honor what the mother stated. You could always give a gift card with extra, on her birthday/a holiday ... |
Tell her she's doing so well, you're giving her a raise. |
Give her a big Christmas bonus. |
Just give her a couple of extra bucks here or there and a nice gift card around the holidays. Next time she comes for 2 hours give her $15 instead of $13. |
+1 I wouldn’t change the amount without checking in with her parents first. Also, keep in mind, this young lady is primed to be a full fledged babysitter in a few years so there will likely be natural opportunities to increase her pay as she takes on more responsibility in the coming years. And what you pay on the high end now, you’re setting yourself up to have an expensive babysitter down the road. |
$10 at least |
$5 an hour |
