How much do you pay for overnights?

We have an afternoon nanny who works roughly 15 hours a week for us. She is doing an overnight next month for the first time for our 3 and 1 year old. She will pick the girls up from daycare at 4 and they go to sleep at 7. The next day, she will get them up (around 6:30) and take them to school and they will be in daycare from 8-4. Then she will pick them up and do 4-7 routine and bedtime. We get home that night after bedtime. So all in, she is "working" for around 8 hours but I want to compensate her fairly. Her normal rate is $20/hour. What would you give all in for this time?

I would pay her $20/hour. She’s still working while she’s sleeping if she’s the only adult in the house.

If she can go out and party and get drunk, then only pay her for 8 hours. However, if you expect her to be there and responsible for all hours then I would pay $20/he for every single hour.

If there is a kid sick, is she responsible to stay with them and keep them away from school/take them to a dr if necessary/pick them up mid-day if necessary?

I would pay her $20/hr for the overnight hours she is in your house, but $10/hr for the time the kids are at school. She is essentially on call, but not working those hours. Most other employees that have to be on call for employment do not make their regular wage for that time. If she does need to get the girls early for some reason then her regular wage would be initiated again then

We pay our hourly rate for hours the kids are out of bed +2. Then we pay a flat $100 fee for the overnight. I pay more if kids are up overnight or some other emergency arises. I would not pay when they’re in school/daycare.

As a former nanny (although in 2011 and in a lower col area), this sounds more reasonable than paying her normal rate for every single hour.

It sucks, but I’d pay $20/hour from 4-10 and then $200 for overnight until they wake up. If either wakes up during the night, which is highly likely as you will be gone, then $20/hour.

^^sorry, $100 a night not $200 from 10-6am

Who's on call while they are daycare? Would she be the one who needs to get them in case there one of them is sick or there is some sort of emergency? If she's on call for those hours then you need to compensate her for that.
I'd also pay for am overnight fee. Pay her hourly until about 8-9 p.m. and then $100 for the night, and again hourly starting 6 a.m. or so.

WRONG.

She's working the entire time as she's responsible for your kids. Below is reasonable.

We pay our usual hourly rate for all hours. Everyone I know does the same. I mean, if the babysitter can’t leave - she’s working.

But from 8-4 the next day she isn't with the kids nor does she need to be in their house. She can do whatever she wants at her own house or locally with the exception of drugs, alcohol, or child care for someone else. She certainly should be compensated for being available, but i don't think it should be at the same rate as when the kids are with her or she has to be in their house such as overnight.

Then she should not be available if kid gets sick during school. You want me available then you pay full hourly rate.

Regular hourly until bedtime. Then $125 for the night while sleeping. Then back to hourly when they wake up.
