We're eliminating cable and upgrading Internet with RCN. They have a BYOM (bring your own modem) allowance, so I'm going to do that to eventually save the rental fee. I'm getting 330 mbps, but want to get a Docis 3.1 modem in the event we want to upgrade further down the line.
We have an appt to have it installed, so I want to make sure I have everything before the visit. I think I also need an Ethernet cable. Do I need a Coaxial cable too? Anything else? We have an Apple airport too. Any recs/help appreciated. Thanks! Modem: https://amzn.to/2mhRZve Ethernet cable: https://amzn.to/2miFRKB |

According to this FAQ https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.rcn.com/assets/images/hub/max-your-speed/575C_Wireless_FAQs_FINAL.pdf&sa=U&ved=2ahUKEwiz6MKWl9HkAhVMZN8KHSsGAGEQFjAAegQIBhAB&usg=AOvVaw1i-5FsmInnbKnQ35uLVgRU
You have to use the RCN modem for this speed. But those speeds sound oddly like SONET or ATM speeds. What's your physical connection to the network? Just cable or FIOS ONT? |
I think just cable. I don't have a box like Verizon Fios. The sales person said that the only two that wouldn't work are the Motorola MB8600 and the Netgear C7800 DOCSIS 3.1 per this page: https://www.rcn.com/hub/help/bring-your-own-modem/ |
| Then that modem should work. It doesn't have WiFi, though. I guess your Ethernet cable is to connect some existing WiFi device? |
