New ES curriculum ELA, math - how was curriculum night?

Wasn't able to make it. Do things sound good? Teachers in good spirits?

No homework. No compact math next year.

No compacted math? Is that for all schools?

Does that mean nobody gets advanced math and there’s no math differentiation? What explanation did they give??

It’s not just your Principal. Principals are in a tough spot. Stuck between useless MCPS Central Office and its horrible initiatives.

So isn't the new math curriculum supposed to include differentiation, which would mean--theoretically--we wouldn't need compact math anymore?

Well after hearing, “ it doesn’t matter, our school will never get anything (security camera, fixed up, right size the K class size, etc),” from her for 4+ years unsure do. Her check the box attitude is invading everything.

The on-going problem with in-class differentiation is whether teachers actually have the ability and time to meaningfully differentiate when you have a wide range of learners in the classroom. In my experience - it just isn't working. Compacted math has been a saving grace for my 5th grader. Can anyone else confirm that this is true (re no compacted math in the new curriculum)?

I don’t know but our BTSN is next week. Agree that it was much needed for my other child the last two years.
