My DD started 1st grade this year and they have been in school all of 2 weeks and her teacher has e-mailed me close to 7 times already with information about her class. Yesterday it was a long e-mail about the contents in her take-home folder, outlining every piece of paper etc.... Now she is personally e-mailing me asking if I want to volunteer in class and how I'm doing? I am used to a weekly note or a monthly newsletter e-mailed. Is this excessive to anyone else? |
Be happy that she is communicating with you. If you don't want to volunteer, say no. If you don't want to read about the contents of the take home folder, don't read it. Seems like a non-issue. |
We have an app called ClassDojo this year and I am thrilled. Yes some of the info is mundane but I am happy there is communication.
DD is in 2nd. Last year the communication was minimal. |
Most parents complain about a lack of communication. You should be grateful the teacher puts in the extra time which many don’t. |
It may taper off as he year goes on. And I bet everyone got an email like that, cut and pasted.
It’s way better than no communication! |
And if she didn't send the detailed email, she would receive annoying emails with questions. You are free to not read the whole email. |
This! |
Teachers are damned if they do, damned if they don’t. It’s either too little or too much communication. How about we, as parents, take a breath, relax, and be grateful for everything our teachers are doing for our kids. |
7 in 2 weeks is excessive. But I would rather have too much communication than too little. At least you can choose not to read or respond! And you don’t have to help or volunteer if you don’t want to. |
Yep. And the teacher may have had one or parents ask questions, which prompted her to email info to all the parents. |
Well aren’t you a ray of sunshine... |
It must be so difficult to have a teacher care more about your child’s progress and wellbeing than you do. |
I'd love that. In the several years we been in school, never get any emails. |
I’m a teacher and I think it’s excessive, but hopefully it’s just because it’s the beginning of the year. |
Sounds like this is private school. |
