Potomac and Bethesda Out of CCL NextGen VA?

Anonymous
Have Bethesda and Potomac switched from CCL NextGen VA to MD? We had our first game canceled against Bethesda and it sounds like this weekend’s game against Potomac may be canceled as well. Does anyone have anymore information regarding this?

CCL2 had half the season cancelled at girls U11

What was the reason given for half the season being cancelled?

Clubs did not have 2nd teams. They had the schedule out in May, but did not realize till late August that clubs were not putting teams in CCL2. Half of this season and half of the spring gone.

OP, what club/age group/gender are you?

I think there are cost saving by switching to Maryland. Hopefully we are watching the break up of the CCL. The three big clubs really get nothing out of the league but trips to SoVa and the other clubs are all playing for 4th place. The CCL2 is even worst. Time to demand changes.

It definitely feels like a breakup is happening. Last minute changes and cancelations with no communication.

Nope. We played against Bethesda last weekend and we're a VA team. Our game against Potomac this weekend did get cancelled, however.

CCL2. We have like 3-4 games left for the fall(played 2) and 4 for the spring. Everyone of the fall games are still TBA. I bet those games will fall through. Never had this many open dates in the fall season before. Does not look good long term. I am calling the TD. We have to get out of this league!

Would love to see the end of CCL or a CCL-NCSL league merger. I sincerely hope the CCL leadership takes some time to think about what's best for kids in the region instead of their own interests.

I know the older Potomac teams are playing EDP only. They had a few years of not being able to play the CCL VA teams in the spring at all...most were cancelled. And there are not many MD teams in CCL to play.

Both clubs got kicked out because they suck.

I don't know if there is really any need for teams in that age range to cross the Potomac or the Rappahannock Rivers (or even the Occoquan). EDP in Maryland seems to be a model worth repeating. Maybe the disparate leagues can offer a niche at U13 and older.

Definitely +1 whether it is for VA only EDP or top VA teams playing in EDP. CCL and NCSL have diluted talent pool for NOVA kids before U-12 - definitely see it on the boys side. The competition is extremely uneven. And there are second teams relegated to CCL II who should play other top teams.

So what clubs in Va are in the EPD now? There website is under construction. I can see people getting upset paying for a full slate of games and getting 1/2. Any u12 parents should really be upset... less games for players hoping for DA/ENCL slot.
