| What is the latest on this school? On 1st Grade WL. What do those with kids in higher grades think? Is the curriculum as good as advertised? How long would one stay at the school? |
|
Take a look at the WL data and you will see an alarming number of offers made this year.

| Curious parent here. Why the uptick? Have not followed the school but remember the founder left. |

Their PARCC scores are very low--basically every demographic group does worse than the DC average.
It's not a great commute for a lot of families--there are lots of charters closer to a metro. Families that want language immersion, Montessori, or a path through 12th grade won't find it at CMI. It was advertised as being very inclusive of kids with disabilities but in practice that seemed to mean offering all of them Floortime...which is a treatment for autism, not other impairments, and is not supported by evidence even for autism. |
| We accepted and love it and I hear great things about 1st. My kids can’t wait to go to school every day. The PARCC scores are higher than my DCPS so it is all relative. |
OP we left for K because we wanted language immersion. There were 2 parents in DS class who had older children in 2nd and 4th grade. Both parents like myself are very active in the school. They were both happy with the education their older children were getting when I asked. The communication is excellent at the school, and I was surprised to find that teachers in the upper grades, just like preschool, emailed parents at the end of the week what they learned that week and plans for next week. That’s all I can say about upper grades. ECE was amazing and fantastic. DS loved going to school and it was always fun. The kids had recess twice a day. ECE teachers all great. Lastly, the PTO is amazing with communication and advocating for parents any issues or concerns parents had. And once the issue was bought up to leadership, they were quick to respond with a plan and communicated such to the parents. The parent community is also great. We loved the small school feel and community and especially that staff really knew all the kids. Hope above helps and good luck. |
Probably not when you compare by demographics. CMI will likely be all 2 stars this year. |
Here we go. The vocal anti-CMI poster. Give it a break will you. |
| We know families at CMI who are really happy there. Their kids are doing well. |
| Any parents with kids currently (or have had) kids in 3rd-6th grades at this school? We have also considered this school but only know about the early grades. |
35% ELA scores. Comparatively, nearby title 1 DCPS score higher. Barnard 37%, West 42%, Whittier 43%, Truesdell 43%, Dorothy Height 41%, Bruce Monroe 39%. |
| Wow. Is this attributed to teacher turnover or overall issues? |
Ask a different person you will get a different answer. But the trend isn’t going on the right direction. |
Many Bruce Monroe kids don't speak English as first language and take the tests in English and still have solid scores! |
I had a kid in 3rd grade. We left. School was fine for us in earlier grades (PS-1st). It was in 2nd grade I started wondering what they were learning and in 3rd it became clear not much. My child is very average and will live up (or down) to expectations, so we found something more rigorous for 4th. |
