Cars without spare tires (run flats)

Anonymous
A lot of (German) cars do not have spare tires it seems.

Anyone have an experience with them where this was an issue? The tires are very expensive and cannot be plugged...but if I get a flat on the way to Delaware beaches do I get the car off the road and have it towed to a dealer that has the run flats or orders them?

I hear they can run for up to 100 miles, not sure I would want to test that with the family in the car.

One thing to keep in mind is they need to be replaced more frequently, I think.
