| So not ready financially to get another car but this one has 225k Miles and is 20 yrs old. I will have to get a basic replacement as it's not worth getting fixed. Anyway, I believe the donation write-off doesn't work the same way anymore like before - how would you dispose it in such a situation. |
| What kind? What’s wrong with it? Did you get an estimate? |
|
My car died about 2 months ago. I took it to the shop and there were several issues, each of which cost more to repair than the car was worth. So we bought a new car and donated the old car.
Still waiting to hear back from the charity how much of a tax receipt we'll get. They will auction the car off for parts and I'll get a receipt for the value of the car sold to a repair shop for the parts value. |
You can’t deduct that any longer |
As OP also said no pt as no tax benefit. |
| get a new damn car....225K miles...is that not enough for you? |
|
Sell it for scrap metal and parts. Craigslist, your local mechanic, the junk yard.
You'd be surprised how much interest you get: as the saying goes "one man's trash is another man's treasure |
I would be PISSED if my car only lasted 225K. |
Most cars can make it about 200k but not a lot more without major problems. |
| crappy Jap car. |
