Best high school backpack?

Anonymous
We just realized that my 9th grader's middle school backpack, the Jansport "Right Pack", is now too small. The difference is that DS has no locker and needs to carry textbooks.

What have you found to be the best for carrying heavy loads? Should I go with the Jansport Big Student, or College, or something else? Hopefully he'll go to college with it!

Thanks.

My boys all have the LLBean Deluxe Book Pack. It holds a lot and holds up to abuse. My oldest used his in high school and is now using the same backpack in college. We don’t need to replace it yet.

The North Face Borealis and Recon backpacks are very roomy and very durable.

We got this one for ds this year:

It has a cushioned laptop section and the zippered pocket on the bottom is big enough to fit a pair of shoes and/or PE uniform.

This backpack is replacing an ll bean backpack that has carried heavy loads almost daily for many years. It’s still in good shape but doesn’t have a laptop section. I love ll bean backpacks.

My kid won't carry LL Bean as the company has ties with Trump. Alternatives besides North Face? Or are those the best ones for heavy high school loads?

Are you sure it will be heavy? So many books are online. My kids have the Jansport Big Student Backpack. It gets heavy when they never clean out old papers but fits a lot.

Kids have used Eddie Bauer backpacks for years both for school and doing some camping. The great thing is the lifetime warranty. Two were replaced over the years after heavy use.

All through middle school my son used a Patagonia back pack that I first used as a diaper bag (for him) then as a work/laptop bag when I started working again. I was going to get him a new backpack for high school, but this thing is still going strong and he is more interested in fancy sneakers. It's a little small but they don't even make this style anymore, so you could choose whatever size you want. Seriously, Patagonia. Can't kill this thing.

Also wanted to add it's really comfortable for heavy loads which is why I let him have it for middle school.

My DS used the same Vans Transient backpack all four years of HS. The skateboard straps are kind of extraneous if you have a kid who doesn't skateboard, but it is quite large, durable enough and not too expensive.

My kids wanted nothing to do with LL Bean after elementary school. I have no explanation for this.

My 9th grade son got this one, too. Another vote for it. It carry a ton of stuff - he real question is whether his back can handle all that the pack can carry.
