Bassinet recommendations

Does anyone have recommendations on bassinets? The one we registered for is no longer available and I'm having a really hard time finding research on them.

Thanks!

For what it is worth we used this one.... http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2627248

Overall I liked it a lot although I have nothing to compare it to. The mattress is thin and does not fit standard cradle sheets but that wasn't an issue. We just put down a small flannel receiving blanket under baby which was actually easier than a sheet.

Has anyone just used the bassinet "insert" in a pack and play? If so, did that work out okay?

I loved our co-sleeper that attaches to the bed. Unless you're only planning to use the bassinett for a couple of weeks, I would suggest getting something more "substantial" than the insert in a pack and play. They're so shallow and small, and the "mattress" isn't very supportive.

I have to agree that unless you are terribly set on the idea of a bassinet that you should also consider the Arm's Reach co-sleeper. It can be used longer than a bassinet which a baby grows out of often fairly early. For those short on space and/or money it helps as well as it can travel easily as a pack-n-play as well. Just bear in mind that there is a difference in weight allowance in the bassinet feature of the mini vs. original Arm's Reach co-sleeper. There are always a lot of gently used mini co-sleepers for sale, but I personally felt it was far less versatile and couldn't beused as long as the original.
Just another option....

We're presently using the pack and play at the bassinet level for baby #2. We used a regular bassinet for baby #1 who arrived at 7lbs. Baby #2 arrived at nearly 10lbs and very wiggly and mobile from the get go. We started him in a bassinet for a couple of weeks until we noticed he could push himself dangerously close to the sides. We immediately moved him to the bassinet level of the pack and play so that he would have more room to move around. So if I were you I'd recommend the pack and play since you will get way more use out of it as your child grows.

I really wished we had gotten a co-sleeper. Its what I had decided on at first, but I let myself listen to my husband and mil. Instead I ended up with a crappy Kolcraft Cuddle Care bassinet. The mattress is too thin and my son would never sleep in it for longer than 20 mins. Even if he had, he ended up growing too long for it by about 3 months. That wasn't too big a deal since after about the hundreth time I'd pass out in the middle of night nursing, I gave up and just let my son sleep in the bed with me. If there's a next time I'm getting a co-sleeper.

You may just want to borrow a bassinet or co-sleeper, if you can, until you figure out what your baby prefers. We borrowed a bassinet which we used maybe once or twice. Both of my DDs slept a lot better in the carseat. I think the snugness was a little more womb-like. We went straight from the carseat to the crib (at around 8 weeks).
