| Hi. We welcome any advice on the value of attending ID Showcase soccer camps at various colleges. Our son is interested in possibly playing soccer at the d2 or d3 level. are these camps just a money grab or are they worth the time and expense? something to do in summer before junior year or before senior year? thanks |
The money grab part is a bit of a loaded question. The reality is what are your other showcasing options? 4th bracket at Jeff Cup and just hope a coach wonders by? The ID camps can be money grabs if your son fails to do any follow up. |
Go to the schools website he is interested in and find the ID camp for that school. We've been to D2 schools where they are handing out offers after a single day ID camp. D3 is a little different as you'll need an academic profile. |

My son attended two ID camps this summer.
The first pulled together about 60 D1 through D3 coaches, who evaluated the players. Speaking of which, the camp limited the number of players to 200. The players went through sessions on interviewing with college coaches and preparing their college "resumes." They also got training, did scrimmages, and played matches; all of this over three days in mid July. This camp was his first experience, and he really enjoyed it. Afterward I felt like it was money well spent. Later he attended a D2 ID camp. Doing so gave him great 1:1 time with the coach and the assistant coaches. Also gave him the opportunity to visit the school and imagine playing in the stadium. While he did not leave with an offer, it appears the coach is interested in my son. From these two experiences I suggest you and your child decide which college (or colleges) of interest offer an ID camp and decide whether going fits within your schedule and your budget. Good luck. |
