I am a person who wears a Lot of black and dark brown as main colors (shoes purse coat).
I found a coat that is knee lenth at talbots in wool angora that is conservative that I can wear to work or whenever ( my current work coat is a long black one). Is a heather gray "in" or safe? I could get the se coat in black but wanted to branch ouabit andthe brown at least online didn't look like a brown I'd like. Thanks for all views - I buy coats very seldom |
| Heather Gray can be very drab. I would branch out a bit further. You might be surprised by how often you can wear a much bolder color. |

light heather gray or darker, like charcoal? I have a darker heather gray coat and like it. It's neutral but isn't black. No, it's definitely not exciting, but I'm not someone who wears a lot of bright color anyway. I do like that I can accessorize it with almost any bright or pastel color of scarf/gloves/hat and it looks good.
I don't know if gray is "in" but if you're looking for a coat to last you a few years, you don't necessarily want to worry about "in" anyway. |
| I have a light grey coat and I love it. It's very sophisticated looking. I'm pretty pale, but the grey makes me appear rosier. |
| I'd go with a bright color to use as an accent. Reds, fuchsias, greens and bright blues will go with alot of other colors. |
| Go for red. It is grey enough around here and your wardrobe sounds neutral enough. At the very minimum, go for a punchy bag to give SOME color. |
| I love charcoal grey--I try not to wear black as much now that I am over forty and I find charcoal a softer and more flattering color. |
| I agree. Actually with brown and black and grey wardrobe, a fuchsia coat would be very nice. A dark berry/cranberry would be nice too. Depending on your coloring, a true red or orange red could be great. I think the grey sounds really boring and you need to spice it up a bit. This is from someone who has a largely neutral base wardrobe too. Have a little fun! |

OP here, here is the coat- it fits well which is a miracle..
I got the heather gray- I'm petite with dark hair and eyes- pale but olive tone (which make yellows horrible).. this red doesn't look like a deep red (some deep reds look great- others not so great on me).. thnaks for all the feedback- does this help? http://www1.talbots.com/online/browse/product_details.jsp?zoomImage=93031320_alt1&id=prdi23255&catId=cat80020&rootCategory=cat70010&sortKey=Default&conceptIdUnderSale=cat70010§ion=Regular |
| I like the coat, and I liked it best in gray. |
I like the coat too and the grey is nice. Go for it, but why not mix in some color in a bag or shoes. Teal, Red, cognac, etc. are all very nice with your neutral palette. I also liked the belted wrap coat in fuschia

| I think you should get a coat in a color that is most flattering for you. It is something that you'll be wearing, and seen in, daily, so you want something that looks great. Plus, with a mostly black/brown wardrobe, most colors can work with that. |
